Update on Memoir 2

80s extravaganza is proving to be tougher to make than I thought. So I started on Memoir 2 which is easier since I can nick code off memoir 1

Below is an image of what Memoir 2 currently looks like. It is very very basic at the moment. This is the prototype so don't worry it will look a lot nicer when it comes out. I'll give you lot a quick run down on new features based on the image.

#Desktop. Before you play the game you'll be on a computer desktop. There's a bunch of features including a mini game I was going to make but realised it wouldn't do well if I submitted it on it's own.
#Schedule. It works like this: Each year is 7 days. Each day you pick what you do in the daytime, night time and an extra slot.
#Friends. At the moment friends are just a number. But you can only do certain events if you have a specific number of friends.
#Character creation. This isn't made just yet but on the left of the picture where that gap is. You will get to see what your character looks like.
#New/altered stats. Attractiveness is now appearance and there is a new stat called athletics. This is how skinny or fat you are. You can also see your health as a number. Plus there's a health monitor picture that will turn yellow or red as it gets lower.
#No flashing backgrounds. One of the main complaints with Memoir 1 was the flashing backgrounds. There is none of that in the sequel.
#Relationships. Instead of going into a menu to get a relationship you can get them randomly during your day. If you choose to look for a relationship you can use up a slot in your day. You also get to see what your girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband looks like just like your character.
#Jobs. There will be a lot more jobs available....hopefully.
#Diseases/handicaps. I'm working on this so there's no promises I'll get this done. But randomly during the game you may diseases such as the common cold or even cancer. You won't just die instantly with the more serious diseases but it will eat away at you.

I think that's all. I'm absolutely knackered as it is 3am so there may be some spelling/grammar mistakes.

Great job so far!
I really think you shoiuld release this first and maybe even forget about 80s extravaganza.
Maybe there could be a Popularity Stat and a section where it shows the year.

I'll probably release Memoir 2 first either way but 80s Extravaganza is one of those games I've always wanted to make so I can't forget it that easily.

The popularity stat seems like a nice idea. But Charisma is sort of the same thing.

Don't know about the year. I could do that. It'll be easy to do though. When should the start year be? Or should it be random in between 1970-2010?

It's a little long but it sounds fantastic for one of the good ends. I'll do a bit of cropping so it doesn't make the game a little big.

Music will probably be the last thing I do. If you know any more good classical songs then comment them here. Thank you.

can you make a sequel that you can move arond town,can talk to people and most importantly eat and exercise or you will become fat

p.s i want to have that on memoir 3(if you make a sequel)

That sounds quite interesting.

I can rip the code from one of my other games to do that. But it'll have to be for Memoir 3. Maybe I can add a hunger stat similar to the sims games. Like a bar that constantly decreases.

I think you should start in the 1980's-1990's because that is when most users were born.

Phobias could be nice.

And if you could have an "Crush Option" you could select a person you like and maybe there are people that like you.

How about a Happy/Sad rank.

If you could get info like "Mom Dies of old age" or somthing for family.

Maybe even disasters and pets.

I have so many ideas.

Heh of course I'll give you credit but you'll probably be put under "other" as there's no "ideas giver".

Popularity is still a mix of the charisma and friends stat But I'll see what I can do.

Years sounds good.

Phobias don't really fit into the game.

Don't really get what you mean by the crush option.

Happiness sounds good. Maybe it could work like Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophesy. If it gets too low you kill yourself. If it gets high you get bonuses.

I'm not sure if I could do the family thing. Seems like a lot of trouble. I mean the kids thing in the last memoir game didn't really work like I wanted it to. But I probably will have to put a family thing in.

Disasters can probably go under random events. Pets....not too sure on that one.

I think I should focus on the story part of the game before I add some new stuff. There's so much to do that this game could take months where as Memoir 1 only took 3 weeks.

I'm still working on how to make a screenshot button with bitmaps and that and how I can make a save/load function. Then I have a random password that unlocks the secret ending.

what about a sandbox mode where you have unlimited hp and live forever

Yeah that sounds pretty easy to do.

The first memoir was going to have it too but there was no point. Cheats work well with this one.

A good part of the story could be when you are 7 or 8 is a secret santa.
Your secret santa is the school bully.
You can: Send him somthing
Send him somthing bad
Forget About It

This has given an idea which is a sneaky way to make me do less work.

Maybe other people can come up with different scenarios. Then in the corner it says the username who came up with it like those collab flashes.

Maybe in Memoir 2, the stuff you can buy and things you can do varies on the current year. For example, maybe in the year 2001 you can buy a cellphone, but in 2050, you can buy a Personal Neural Communication Network Device. The year you start in should probably be around 1970-2020.

I like this idea very much.

Shouldn't be too hard to do. 1970: Cassette tapes to 2060+: Mind implants.

I've put years into the game. Only took a couple of minutes. Struggling to make something as simple as a birthday which I'll put at the beginning and end (grave) though.

It keeps forgetting leap years in February.

I like LukeRM's idea of changing the items in the store by years.
Maybe we can add more on to the store with sales.
Will222222's idea of the sandbox mode seems hard, since when you "Never Die" you will have to make millions of story ideas (Unless you repaet them, that would be boring) and since this Memoir is visual you will have to animate/draw them too.
I hope this is easy, but maybe you could add a difficulty level (Stats will be harder to improve on and stats will fall faster the harder the level is)

I like cheats nonetheless.

Maybe when you choose a certain name at the beginning you get different modes. One where you get the lowest stats and maximum for HP.

The sandbox shouldn't be too hard. One of my earlier games (which is not on here at the moment) was a frogger style game and I can rip code off that.

A difficulty mode however. I can do that. I would have to start on that early though. Saves me doing it after the game is almost done which would take ages.
